Here are some thoughts about Sunday at North...
- Unofficially, the votes have been tallied and the new name for our church will be NORTHRIDGE CHURCH. Keep writing your checks to "North Baptist Church" for now. We have some work to do before you change that. We will let you know.
- I heard someone was very upset because there is a medical center down the road named "Northridge Medical Center." I think it is GREAT that other things nearby use the same name. The more - the merrier... I'd love to see "Northridge Restaurant" and "Northridge Plaza." The more that people in our city can identify this area as "Northridge" - the better!! Everyone knows about the "South Wedge" or Rochester. It is a geographic locater.
- We announced last night that Howard Statler left the church over $84,000 through his will! That is just AMAZING, and we are praising the Lord for that! Even in death, his legacy lives at North! In his life, he impacted hundreds at North. In his death, it will be another large impact that can't be measured simply with a dollar figure!
- What about you? Have you considered the role of giving in your will? Feel free to speak to someone on the finance committee about the process of doing that (people like Jeff Mapes or Bill & Sandy Wight). What a great legacy to leave!
- Did you know we had 523 people here for VERTICAL WORSHIP? If you were standing in the back - I'm sure you aren't surprised. What an amazing turnout!!
- I will feature some pictures of the floor writing later this week. Some awesome things were written down. I can't wait to read them all.
- My wife bought a copy of the Irondequoit Post this morning and the picture and article about our church was on the front page!! I didn't know that. I had only read it online.
- The goal for a move in date was January 10th. That has now been postponed. We will let you know the new date as it becomes more clear (end of January /beginning of February). This was no huge disappointment for us (as a committee). We have a lot of work we are doing by volunteer and this gives us a few more weeks. We will keep working hard and trusting in God (I heard that somewhere recently).
- This is going to allow me to extend the DEAD KINGS series to its appropriate length! I think I am going to add one more week to the series (3 weeks left now).
- Please don't forget about our space issue at the 10:00 hour. All three services seemed "above average" yesterday (haven't heard the official count). Any help you can give us there is greatly appreciated!!
- Finally, don't forget - that the more we can do about our OPEN THE DOOR giving before we get our Certificate of Occupancy - the less we pay in interest on the loan. I heard that our OPEN THE DOOR giving was above $25,000 yesterday!! THANKS!!
Before service last night Drew, with Bible in hand, asked me to "go to the dead kings in the Old Testament". I told him he had to be more specific but, after he gave me a blank look, just ended up going to 2 Chronicles.

Oh man! I have to admit I'm disappointed with the name chosen. As with everything else, it'll grow on me but I can't help thinking of a fire department every time I hear it.
The good new is the majority must be happy with it. Aw I guess you can't win them all, onward :)

83% voted for Northridge! Thanks for being flexible.

I've been following the progress on the new building and also the new name. I really like the name that God chose through the members. Maybe it sounds like a fire station, but then, isn't that what it is?...a fire station for bringing people to Christ and putting out sin. For rescuing lost souls, who may not even realize they are lost. And for providing a foundation for the believers and opportunities for them to volunteer for God's Fire Company!
Just a thought.
