Contructions Zones and High Heels

Here is a new addition to our current worship center... (doors into the new construction area)

Are you ready for tomorrow's tour?  I hope you are!  I don't know if anyone wears heels to church anymore, but if you do... don't wear them tomorrow.  You will be spending 30 to 35 minutes inside a construction zone...  So dress comfortably!  Leave the high heels in the closet.

The Good News of My Depravity

C.S. Lewis once said, "When a man is getting better he understand more and more clearly the evil that is still left in him. When a man is getting worse he understands his own badness less and less."

I guess you could say that if you understand that statement, you're getting better. If you don't, you aren't.

The TOUR Is THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday we will give everyone an opportunity to tour the building!  It will happen as part of the morning services.  Don't miss it!!

Here are some preview/update pictures:

This is the most painful part so far... watching beautiful trees get cut down.  It is making room for the new entryway/driveway.

I was on the roof of the new building and saw the sign through the octagon and thought it might be  a nice picture.

This is taken from the lower roof (above the nurseries) - through an HVAC opening. The designs on the floor are the layouts of the acoustical "clouds" that will hang below the ceiling and provide sound help. They were laid out on the floor so that the HVAC guys can avoid place the heating/air conditioning "vents" at the right locations (in between the clouds).

We made a last minute design change (making the classroom larger) and to do that, we needed to move a PVC plumbing pipe.  The quote from a subcontractor was $2000.  So Jeff and Steve did the grunt work... finally cost = $300!!!  Thanks Steve and Jeff!!!
 

The "crosses" are in place!   They will be covered with a stucco-type material and stained. 

Steve does it all... even a little childcare while Elise's mom (Heidi) takes a look at some color choices for staining the stucco.

Good Questions!

I'm always trying to think of ways to help gauge one's spiritual well-being (for myself, for my accountability partners, for my wife, for my daughters, and for the people I lead).  And most often we make spiritual assessments based upon checklists (read my Bible, prayer, went to church).  And while those are good things to consider, they are not the final or even the real gauge of spirituality.

Recently, I came across a couple of questions that are worth considering to check the peace of my own heart:

• Am I becoming more easily irritated these days?
• Am I becoming more easily discouraged these days?

If the answer to either question is "yes" - it should serve as a warning light on the dashboard of my soul.

My Father's Day Gift

Sunday morning in church - the girls (all four) showed up to surprise me with T-shirts they bought and wore for Father's Day.  Here they are:

I know there may come a few years when my daughters wouldn't be caught dead wearing these shirts in public, but I'm thankful that they were excited to  participate in my father's day gift.

Another Busy Week at the Building

It has been another great week at the building with a lot happening.  On Sunday there will be an insert in the program with some pictures and information, but here are some other pictures:

These are the windows up above the stage.  The new building was built right next to this - so the "view" was the blocks of the new building (which you see here).  So they removed the windows and put bricks in their place (I didn't get a picture of the finished product yet).

Jim is one of the guys who works with Rayburn (block company).  I've really enjoyed getting to know him over the past couple of months.  I asked him to take me up on the lift and get a view from above the building.

The inside walls are going up fast!!  Next week - when we give you the tour - you will clearly get an idea of the layout of the new building!

Don't Be Late on Father's Day

Every Sunday we use a countdown of some type.  I know many of you may not know that because you've never been early for church... :)

But tomorrow - you won't want to miss the countdown and the opening video.  REALLY... you won't want to miss them.  Immediately after the countdown video (which will make you laugh) - is a great video to open a Father's Day Sunday!!!

How Honest Are You?

Do you remember the plane that landed in the Hudson River in January?  US Airways Flight 1549 crash landed safely in the middle of the Hudson thanks for Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.  In the wreckage was a book Sullenberger checked out of his local library near Danville, California.  He contacted library officials to ask for an extension and a waiver on overdue fees so he could replace it. The librarians were struck by his strong sense of responsibility considering the circumstances in which the book was lost.

I was happy to hear - the library waived all fess, bought a replacement, and dedicated the replacement book to Captain Sullenberger. It's more than coincidental that the books' subject matter was professional ethics.
